I had a pleasantly busy week that was full of events, networking, and empowerment. As part of the Atlanta Fashion Bloggers, I was invited to attend Sheen Magazine’sKIMMIE AWARDS Media Brunch! Sheen Magazine is published bi-monthly and it is the ultimate beauty guide for the modern day woman. The Kimmie Awardsis an Ultimate Beauty Celebration of the Year that includes a weekend of events. Being invited to participate in covering this weekend celebration was such an honor! Not only was the brunch excellent, but we had the opportunity to learn more about the magazine and to network with fellow media personalities, beauty influencers, and bloggers.
I was full of emotion meeting Kimberly M. Chapman, publisher of Sheen Magazine. I admire that she is an African American woman who owns a magazine publication. With February being Black History Month, this is an opportunity to acknowledge Kimberly M. Chapman as one of the few black women to head a magazine. When asked what motivates her, she responded, “I motivate me.” It’s always a wonderful thing when you have a team of people who are cheering you along as you go through your journey but in reality that doesn’t always exist. You have to learn to be your own cheerleader and move forward in accomplishing your dreams. I also met Editor-In-Chief Sammi Haynes, whose style was so dope and he had the personality to go with it! If you watch Tyler Perry’s “The Haves and the Have Nots,” actor Medina Islam was in the house!
