Did you miss me? I know it been a while since I’ve created a blog post but I’ve been busy building my brands The Posh Factory and Jades Hair Collection. In addition to building my brands, I’ve also decided to take a leap of faith and host the red carpet for Sheen Magazine’s Kimmie Awards where the theme was Dream in Color.
It seems that for months my career in hair, fashion and journalism has been at a standstill because I was unsure of what direction I wanted to go in which left me feeling like I was living in a grey area. I know what the long-term goal is in all of my perspective fields but I was unsure and sometimes still unsure of how to get there. Unbeknownst to me, I would be asked to host the red carpet for Sheen Magazine’s annual Kimmie Awards. While I was filled with excitement I couldn’t help but wonder what I got myself into? I was in no way ready to host the red carpet. Then I remembered reading a quote from Richard Branson that says “If someone offers you an amazing opportunity to do something and you’re not sure you can do it, say yes. Then learn how to do it later” so I accepted the invitation and was on my way.
Hosting the red carpet for the 2018 Kimmie Awards taught me the importance of dreaming in color. I learned that taking baby steps towards your goals is a lot better than twiddling your thumbs hoping and wishing that it will happen. I learned the importance of defining your own destiny, being hungry and staying true to your vision. The red carpet experience helped me learn a lot about the direction I want to take my brands and the content I would like to produce for The Posh Newsroom. I also learned the beauty of progression and going back to the drawing board. I cannot tell you how many times I messed up on the red carpet but the more I began to mess up the more I began to embrace it telling myself things like “You gotta get this right the next time” or “Come on Jay I know you can do this”. I now know what it feels like to dream in color. Dreaming in color is taking the time to learn myself, what I want in life and going after just that. It is accepting my failures and going back to the drawing board to create new ideas that are fulfilling to me. I am no longer living in that grey area I am chasing all of my dreams in color and encourage you to do the same as well.
